In 2008 its residents voted to annex into Sherwood rather than into Jacksonville, and the territory was formally annexed at the Sherwood city council meeting on April 28, 2008, divided along Arkansas Highway 107 into wards.
That matters to a buyer or seller in a practical way. A city that grew by absorbing an unincorporated area in 2008 carries two different records histories, and address-level data in older public records and on third-party listing sites has not always caught up.
What the city itself runs
Sherwood operates its own Police Department, Public Works Department, Permits and Planning, Finance, Human Resources, IT, Animal Services, District Court and Parks and Recreation, from city offices at 2199 E. Kiehl Ave. That is a fuller municipal stack than most Central Arkansas suburbs of comparable size, and it is a large part of what buyers are buying.
On the recreation side the city lists 14 parks, including Henson Park, Austin Lake Park and Lake Cherrywood Park, along with the Bill Harmon Recreation Center, the Bill Harmon Center Pool, the Sherwood Tennis Center and a Senior Citizens Center. The Greens at North Hills is the municipal golf course, originally established as Sylvan Hills Country Club in 1927.
The civic calendar
The city runs a recurring event calendar that includes an Easter Egg Hunt, an Independence Day celebration, a Christmas parade, the Trail of Lights and Winter Fest. If you are relocating and trying to judge whether a suburb has its own center of gravity rather than borrowing North Little Rock's, that calendar is a fair proxy.

Jacksonville has its own school district, created separately from PCSSD, and a different employment anchor. Cabot is in Lonoke County with its own district and a longer commute to downtown Little Rock. Maumelle is also PCSSD but sits west across the river with a different road network entirely.
Sherwood's position is that it is close-in and PCSSD, with a full municipal service set and a single high school feeder. Whether that is the right trade depends on the address, and on which of those districts your family actually wants.
